A Levels at BDC School

“INNOVATION
IS IRRESISTIBLE, PROGRESS
IS INEVITABLE, RESISTANCE IS FUTILE.”

James Gleick

At BDC School, students in Years 12 and 13 follow the internationally recognised Cambridge International A Level programme, a highly respected qualification that prepares students for entry to leading universities worldwide.

A Globally Respected Qualification.

Cambridge A Levels are widely regarded as one of the most rigorous and academically challenging qualifications available. They are recognised by universities in the UK, Europe, the United States, and beyond, providing students with access to a wide range of higher education opportunities. The programme encourages deep subject knowledge, independent thinking, and strong analytical skills - key qualities for success at university and in future careers.

Key Facts:

  • 2,400+ universities worldwide accept Cambridge qualifications

  • 94% of students gain entry to their first-choice university

  • Students choose between 3 and 5 A Level subjects

  • Around 25% of A Level grades are awarded at A*

These figures highlight the strength, recognition, and academic rigour of the A Level pathway.

A Specialised Academic Pathway.

In Years 12 and 13, students specialise in a smaller number of subjects, allowing them to focus on their strengths and interests. Students select a minimum of three subjects and a maximum of five subjects, depending on their individual pathway and future goals. Students are guided in selecting subject combinations that align with their future aspirations.

A Level Subjects.

At BDC, students can choose from the following subject areas:

Entry Requirements.

Students must have successfully completed the IGCSE or an equivalent qualification and demonstrate a good level of English. The programme requires commitment, independence, and a strong work ethic.

School Day.

Students must attend classes from Monday to Friday, 8 am to 2:10 pm. In the afternoons, additional support is available from teachers should students require it.

Why A Levels?

“Students who have studied Cambridge International AS and A Levels develop a real depth of understanding of their subject and strong engagement with their learning.”

Stuart Schmill, Dean of Admissions, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT)

This depth of knowledge, combined with strong analytical and independent learning skills, makes A Level students highly valued by universities and employers worldwide.

Personalised Support.

Small class sizes enable teachers to provide targeted guidance and regular feedback, helping students achieve their full potential and prepare effectively for university.

Preparing for the Future.

The A Level programme prepares students for higher education through academic challenge and independent learning. At BDC, this is supported by ongoing university and career guidance. Students leave BDC as confident, capable, and internationally minded individuals, ready to succeed in a global environment.
